Nearly 1,000 people gathered for the annual Membership Luncheon of the nonprofit Downtown Dallas Inc. on Wednesday, October 8, at the Hyatt Regency. Among the attendees: Mike Wyatt, Shelle Sills, Faisal Halum and John Scovell.
John Crawford, the DDI president and CEO, told the big crowd that, after several corporate relocations, the downtown employment base had grown by 5,000 people just since June.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings then delivered his 2014 State of Downtown address. Citing record-high office leasing, new housing developments near the Farmers Market, a variety of new restaurant and retail openings and the proposed redevelopment of Thanksgiving Tower, the mayor said revitalization of the downtown area is now “beyond the tipping point.” Added Rawlings: “Downtown Dallas is going to make it.”
