Despite a recent memory-making afternoon, former head mistress of the formerly known Trinity River Trust  Gail Thomas was in her garden burying a beautiful bird — “It’s the most beautiful bird I’ve seen” — in her backyard garden. The winged beauty had suffered an “air disaster” hitting the Thomases’ window. Gail was heartbroken that her home was the cause of the death of such an incredible creature. But she and her husband, Bob Thomas, were going to honor it properly with a burial and commemoration.

It was ironic. Gail and Bob are the honorary co-chairs for the Trinity River Audubon Center’s annual Scissor-tails and Cocktails on Thursday, April 12, at the Center.

As she dug the tiny burial plot, Gail proved to be ever the educator of the North Texas landscape. She reported that from the CBD, Brook Hollow was just eight miles to the west. On the east side, Trinity River Audubon Center located in the Trinity River Forest was just the same distance to the east as the crow flies.

Still because the eastern areas are still a discovery in the works, many folks have yet to make it to the 6,000-acre forest that is “the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States.”

To readdress this education of the eastern part of the area, the Scissor-tails and Cocktails organizers have provided a unique offering. The top donors will have Bubbl Dallas provide a round trip to the Thursday, April 12, fundraiser.

What’s that? What’s Bubbl Dallas? It’s a transportation service that unlike others is operated by off-duty police officers and first responders. Whether it’s safeguarding kiddos to after-school activities for working parents or safeguarding jeweled guests to galas, it has all the technology of other ride services but with the assurance that the drivers are old hands at protection.

So, why not make a nice donation? Not only will you score high the generosity scale, you’ll be able to head to the woods and home safe and secure.
