Candice Romo and Kimberly Schlegel Whitman are old hands at raising kids and funds for children battling cancer. Both have headed up the annual Children’s Cancer Fund gala. When Candice co-chaired the 30th Annual Gala in 2018, she raised more than $1.2M. A year later Kimberly topped the previous records hauling in more than $1.4M.
Due to their fundraising for pediatric cancer research and treatment programs at Children’s Health and UT Southwestern, they’ve just become members of the Children’s Cancer Fund Advisory Board.
According to Candice, “I have three boys of my own, and I can’t imagine having to go through all of this. We must take a stand against this awful disease and invest in cutting edge research to cure kids’ cancer.”
During their tenures as event chairs, Candice and Kimberly witnessed not only the battle that the young patients and their families were undertaking but also the advancements being made thanks to funding.
Kimberly added, “After meeting these children at the hospital, I was amazed to see not only their strength and resilience, but also such joy on each of their faces — in the midst of their incredibly hard battles. No child or family deserves what comes with a cancer diagnosis. Children’s Cancer Fund is making an impact… I consider each of these special children my new friends in life, and I’m looking forward to supporting them in their fight.”
