If anyone has seen the University of Texas at Dallas campus grow over the years, it’s Dr. Angela Shoup. In addition to being a UTD triple alumni (BS ’89, MS ’92 and PhD ’94), the University’s 2016 Distinguished Alumni Awardee has most recently headed up the Division of Communicative and Vestibular Disorders at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

So, it was a natural fit for her to take over the reins officially for retiring Callier Center for Communication Disorders Executive Director Dr. Tom Campbell, who will be retiring in August after heading up the Center for the past 14 years.
One of the things that Angela has been known for was “her promotion of an initiative that requires all hospitals to provide hearing screening for newborns,” which she launched at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1999.
In her new role at Callier, Angela said, “After examining the needs of the community that we serve, I want to determine how we can strengthen our current partnerships while working with community leaders to identify new opportunities for us to collaborate to address gaps in care, education and research.”
