In North Texas, relationships are the ingredients for a recipe of success. For the past 15 years, the Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation board has been a feast blending community leaders, CEOs and philanthropists, resulting in more than $500M to support important Baylor initiatives. As one Dallas mover-and-shaker recently said, “Baylor has one of the best boards in North Texas.”
But, gaining the trust and support of such a membership doesn’t just happen and is not a cookie-cutter process. It takes a person who knows how to build each long-term relationship on a basis of honesty, compassion and appreciation. As president of the Baylor Scott And White Dallas Foundation, Rowland “Robin” Robinson has been the architect in building such a board. He may have majored in finance at SMU, but he has studied and mastered the art of building relationships. Whether it was being part of a foursome on the golf course, talking hifalutin scientific developments with medical experts, being on hand when a colleague was being celebrated or simply being bedside as a friend faced the inevitable, Robin made time and answered every call.
It was during his tenure that the Foundation’s Celebrating Women became one of the most-supported events to lead Baylor in its battle against breast cancer. At one point the multi-decade program changed its format from a talk by the guest speaker to a chat with Robin. With his slight Texas drawl, killer smile and a twinkle in his eye, he managed to charm, tease and get insightful information out of the likes of Kristin Chenoweth, Eric Stonestreet, Jamie Lee Curtis and Rita Wilson.
So today, it came as a surprise when Baylor Scott And White Health CEO Jim Hinton told the Foundation board at its quarterly meeting that Robin would be transitioning to a new position as Special Advisor to Baylor Scott And White Health and the Foundation.
Until a permanent successor is announced, Baylor Scott And White Health Chief Policy And Community Affairs Officer Kristi Sherrill Hoyl will be “overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Foundation.”
When asked about the change, Robin laughed, saying that his “golf game had gotten a little rusty.” He added, “I’ve been blessed with energy, health and lots of friends. I am a strong believer in good endings and new beginnings — and I am very excited about the future.”
